Malta

Malta is a Southern European island country consisting of an archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea. It lies 80 km south of Italy. The country covers just over 316 km2, with a population of just under 450,000. The capital of Malta is Valletta. Numerous bays along the indented coastline of the islands provide good harbours. The landscape consists of low hills with terraced fields.

Malta has a Mediterranean climate with very mild winters and warm to hot summers. Rain occurs mainly in autumn and winter, with summer being generally dry. Sunshine duration hours total around 3,000 per year (the highest results in Europe), from an average 5.2 hours of sunshine duration per day in December to an average above 12 hours in July.
